Narendra Prasad passes away

KOZHIKODE NOV. 3. R. Narendra Prasad, playwright, film actor, teacher and literary critic of eminence, died at the PVS Hospital here today. He was 58. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

He was admitted to the hospital here on October 30 in a critical condition. Dr. Prasad was suffering from breathlessness, caused by interstitial lung disease (ILD), a condition that caused disintegration of the lung, Jaikish, the doctor who attended on him at the PVS hospital told The Hindu.

Dr. Prasad had developed serious breathing problem at Cherthala early this month and was hospitalised in Kochi. After he was discharged, he was admitted to the private hospital here.

അധ്യാപകന്‍, നിരൂപകന്‍, നടന്‍, നാടകകൃത്ത്‌ എന്നിങ്ങനെ പല വേഷങ്ങളാടിയ പ്രതിഭാശാലിയായിരുന്നു ആര്‍. നരേന്ദ്രപ്രസാദ്‌. 1946 ഡിസംബര്‍ 26-ന്‌ മാവേലിക്കരയിലാണ്‌ ജനനം.
നാടകത്തിലൂടെയും നിരൂപണത്തിലൂടെയും പ്രശസ്തനായ പ്രസാദ്‌ 'അസ്ഥികള്‍ പൂക്കുന്നു' എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിലൂടെ സിനിമാരംഗത്തെത്തി. ഇതിനിടെ, നിരവധി നാടകങ്ങള്‍ എഴുതുകയും സംവിധാനം ചെയ്യുകയും അവയില്‍ അഭിനയിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.
തലസ്ഥാനം, ഏകലവ്യന്‍, ആറാം തമ്പുരാന്‍, പൈതൃകം തുടങ്ങിയ ചിത്രങ്ങള്‍ ചലച്ചിത്രനടന്‍ എന്ന നിലയില്‍ നരേന്ദ്രപ്രസാദിനെ പ്രശസ്തനാക്കി. പൈതൃകത്തിലെ അഭിനയം അദ്ദേഹത്തിനു മികച്ച സഹനടനുള്ള സംസ്ഥാന അവാര്‍ഡ്‌ നേടിക്കൊടുത്തു.
