'അകലെ'യേക്കുറിച്ച് ശ്യാമപ്രസാദ്
"അമേരിക്കന് നാടകകൃത്തായ ടെന്നസി വില്ല്യംസിന്റെ 'ഗ്ലാസ് മെനാജറി' എന്ന നാടകത്തെ അവലംബിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുള്ളതാണ് ഈ ചിത്രം. നേരത്തെ നാടകമായി അവതരിപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുമുണ്ട്. അതില് നിന്നും സ്വതന്ത്രമായി വികസിക്കുന്നതാണ് സിനിമ. അഞ്ചാറു തവണയെങ്കിലും ഞാന് തിരക്കഥ മാറ്റിയെഴുതിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.
'മെനാജറി' എന്നു പറയുന്നത് വീട്ടിലെ മൃഗശാലയാണ്. ചില്ലു കൊണ്ടു തീര്ത്ത ഒരു മൃഗശാല പോലെയാണ് 'അകലെ'യില് ആവിഷ്കൃതമാകുന്ന കുടുംബജീവിതം. മാര്ഗരറ്റ് ഡിക്കോസ്റ്റയെന്ന അമ്മ്അയും നീല്, റോസ് എന്നു പേരുള്ള മക്കളും ഉള്പ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു ആംഗ്ഗ്ലൊ ഇന്ത്യന് കുടുംബം. സാഹൂഹ്യ യാഥാര്ത്ഥ്യങ്ങളില് നിന്നും മുറിച്ചു മാറ്റപ്പെട്ട ഒരു ലോകത്താണ് അവര് കഴിയുന്നത്."

Akale is a beautiful movie. Shyama Prasad has done a good job. Sheela,Prithvi & Geethu have done justice to the characters.
The song 'AKALE'is also wonderful.

The movie lacks cohesiveness. The story unfolds with Neil as the narrator and the movie is presented from his perspective. What forms the crux of the tale is how his introvert sister Rose interacts with Neil's friend one afternoon, who manages to coax her into sharing her feelings and thoughts, which had been shut away from everyone else and how she is relapses into greater depths of introversion when she realizes he is not the prospective suitor she imagined him to be. This scene however is not witnessed either by her mother or by the brother in the movie. Neil couldn't have possibly known about what had actually transpired between his sister and his friend from Rose or his mother. It seems a little inexplicable that Neil should feel responsible for her depression or even that he should actually know his sister as anything but a pity-evoking creature shut in her own world. The initial scenes of the movies had dialogues that were too contrived and appeared like deliberate attempts to be 'arty'.
