Vadakkumnathan
Mohanlal and Padmapriya in the Malayalam movie 'Vadakkumnathan' , directed by Shajun Karyal. Mohanlal does the role of Iringannoor Bharathan Pisharody, professor at the Sanskrit University, and Padmapriya as Meera his student and murapennu.
The music of Vadakkumnathan has already become immensely popular. Two of the songs set to tune by the late Ravindran, Kalabham Tharam and Gange have caught public fancy.
കഥകളി, ജ്യോതിഷം, വ്യാകരണം എന്നിവയില് വിദ്വാനായ വേദാന്ത അധ്യാപകനാണ് ഇരിങ്ങണ്ണൂര് ഭരതപ്പിഷാരടി. ഭരതന്റെ മുറപ്പെണ്ണും വിദ്യാര്ഥിയുമാണ് മീര. ഇരുവരും തമ്മിലുള്ള വിവാഹം വീട്ടുകാര് നിശ്ചയിക്കുന്നു. എന്നാല് വിവാഹദിനം മണ്ഡപത്തില് എത്തിയ മീര അറിയുന്നത് ഭരതനെ കാണാനില്ലെന്ന വാര്ത്തയാണ്.
വര്ഷങ്ങള് പലതു കഴിയുന്നു. ഒരു തീര്ഥാടനത്തിനു പോയ അമ്മയും അമ്മാവനും ഭരതനെ ഹിമാലയത്തിന്റെ താഴ്വരയില് ഒരു യോഗിയായി കണ്ടെത്തുന്നു. വടക്കുംനാഥന്റെ കഥ ഇവിടെ തുടങ്ങുന്നു. സംഗീതസാന്ദ്രമായ ഒരു പ്രണയചിത്രം. കാവ്യാ മാധവന്, ബിജുമേനോന്, മുരളി, ഷമ്മി തിലകന്, കവിയൂര് പൊന്നമ്മ തുടങ്ങിയവരും അഭിനയിക്കുന്നു.

I saw this movie two days back.It's worth a watch.Excellent cinematography and the music by Raveendran is a real treat!The story line is also good.Mohanlal has delivered a controlled and excellent performance.
watched the movie from tvm new. this movie begins well but ends in a mess. despite trying to fuse philosophical elements into the screenplay, the film has a too predictable end. s.kumar's camera and late raveendran's music are the highlihgts of the film. Mohan Lal looks really young and smart-untypical of him! padmapriya is superb! an average film which follows old-style narrative pattern.
watched vadakkumnathan. the film has 'malayalathanima', but fails to create an impression in the mind of audience at last.
after intervel, the film isdragging and dragging tears, tarful dialogues etc like a malayalam serial. Girish puthencheri had improved in scripting compared to his pallavoor devanarayanan.
songs and cinematography is good.(afterall it is raveendran and s.kumar)
I sat in the theatre expecting something different from Mohanlal. After the first half only, I felt that the movie has no directions. 2nd half was a mess. I felt that this movie was the follower of Thanmatra lineup... giving a chance to mohanlal to show his Mentally disordered talent.

a classic film. shajun karyal proves himself after a lot of wasted opportunities that there is a spark in him. excellent songs and picturisation with a touching story. mohanlal once again proves that he is one of the finest actors in the country. padmapriya also excels.

Saw the movie Vadakkumnathan.. Mohanlal can;t create any more images in his late age.. Mammooty and Mohanlal should act in Father Roles only as both are become very old looking.. acting level also Mohanlal is a nothing in front of young generation. Once upon a time he acted.. but only bcoz of that we should bear his acting now.. No.. no way.. try to stop romance and Maram Chuttal .. Mr.Mammooty and Mr.Mohanlal.. Then Vadakkumnathan is a very old story and only music is good..
the movie is a classic with excellent songs, good cinematography and a beautiful love story. but the dicription of bipolar disorder is not correct. in bipolar dis order there is two phases. during manic phase, the patient feels extremely supreme and elated. many intellectuals had this desease and many did their most famous works during this manic phase.in this phase ,they don't care anything. they may engage in activities like extra marrital sex.it is short in period and is followed by long period of depression and guilt over the things which they did in the manic phase.the disorder shown in the film is something else, not bipolar disorder.
I saw thefilm on releasing date.the scene before intervel greatly impressed me. The acting of Murali was good. Songs like 'Gange' was very good. any way it is an intresting film.
