WHAT'S IT

PLUSES

MINUSES

VERDICT

i ve read what Mr.Sunil had written on photographer. Poor fellow. had he seen any movies in his life? i am not talking about trash films(im afraid, how could i call it film). the malicious melodrams, the superstar gimmics... Mr. Sunil u dont even worth blaming of. go, try and find out what is happening around you, atleast watch some good malayalam films,if not english. Have you ever heard something like- IMAGE. do you know that life is not just pothan vava or narasimham. you may favour CID Moosa... wah! what a film critic you are. don't do something of which you are unsure of.

sad to c iffk's name misused for defending an atrocious movie. if anyone thinks that slow-paced narrative and silent background alone will make a meaningful movie, then fine. iffk is trying to label all critics of photographer as fans of cid moosa or pothen vava. no problem for such movies 'cause they never pretend to be for subtle viewing. for those like me who grew on a regular menu of IFFI and iffk movies (even before that organising Amma Ariyan screenings) Photographer is a poor, futile exercise. the only thing discernible from the movie is that Ranjan Pramod is in deep love with Wayanad - we too are. but for that u don't need to make an incoherent movie! please... better make a trip to the interiors of Wayanad!!

Sir, Rajesh Menon,

I am not misusing IFFK, actually that is my blog name, and i posted the comment in a hurry,so that i had to use the name. i am shine, mohammed shine. and i would like to tell you that- i've been to waynad, and had even lived there for an year or so.

so let's get back to our point, Photographer-
Slow pace narrations and traditional editing styles doesn't make a movie intellectual. and i don't think john gave everything into ammaye ariyan- you could call it a masterbation, he did the film for his own plesure. and photographer is par with Iranian new wave films. blank out from bias and watch the stuff once more.

I am so glad to see a good comment on "Photographer". I really liked the movie. I think it's a step in the right direction. It has some bad points. I would take out the mother character; the twin brother should've been done by someone else. But, the beauty of the cinema is that it's not coherent. It's also not pretentious. I never got the sense that Ranjan was trying to be intellectual. This is new wave cinema. Could be called docu-cinema. Like someone followed a few characters around with a camera. No attempt is made to explain anything. It is up to the audience to make sense out of it. The beauty of Wyanad hits you. The plight of the adivasis hits you. And there was no preaching involved. That's good cinema in my humble opinion.

I have a request to Indulekha. Please do an interview with Ranjan Pramod. I'd like to hear him express his vision of Photographer
