Pothen Vava, directed by Joshy, tells the story of the relationship between Advocate Kurishummoottil Mariamma and his son, known as Pothan Vava. Pop singer Usha Uthup does the role of Advocate Mariamma while Mammootty plays the role of her son Vava.
Others in the cast include Nedumudi Venu, Rajan P Dev, Kalasaala Babu, Sai Kumar, Salim Kumar, Shammi Thilakan, Sphadikam George, Gopika and Samvrutha Sunil. Pothan Vava is scripted by Benny P Nayarambalam. Sanjeev Shankar weilds the camera. Songs penned by Vayalar Sarath Chandra Varma are set to music by Alex Paul.
WHAT'S IT
വ്യത്യസ്ത മതത്തില് പെട്ട അച്ഛനമ്മമാരുടെ മകനാണ് വാവ. മാതാപിതാക്കള് വേര്പിരിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് വാവ അമ്മയുടെ കൂടെയായി. ഒരു മതവും സ്വീകരിക്കാതെ എല്ലാ മതാഘോഷങ്ങളിലും പങ്കു കൊണ്ട് വാവ വളര്ന്നു; പോത്തന് വാവയായി. ഒരു പ്രത്യേക സാഹചര്യത്തില് അമ്മയുടെ മതം സ്വീകരിക്കാന് വാവ തീരുമാനിക്കുന്നു. അനുമതിക്കായി അച്ഛനെ തേടിപ്പോകുന്നു. അച്ഛനും അമ്മയും ഒന്നിക്കാന് അതു കാരണമാകുന്നു. തുടര്ന്നു നടക്കുന്ന സംഭവങ്ങളാണ് ചിത്രത്തില്.
PLUSES
അഭിനയമികവോടെ അനായാസമായി മമ്മൂട്ടി ഹാസ്യരംഗങ്ങള് അവതരിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ബിജുക്കുട്ടനും തിയറ്ററില് ചിരി പടര്ത്തുന്നു. (ഇനി കുറേക്കാലം സലിം കുമാറിന്റെ റോള് ഈ തമാശപ്പടക്കത്തിനാവും.) ഉഷാ ഉതുപ്പിലൂടെ, ചങ്കൂറ്റമുള്ള മാതൃത്വമെന്തെന്ന് അറിയാന് കഴിയുന്നുണ്ട്. കുറിക്കു കൊള്ളുന്ന സംഭാഷണങ്ങള് ഈ സിനിമയുടെ മേന്മയാണ്.
MINUSES
തമാശകള് നല്കുന്ന ജീവനുണ്ടെങ്കിലും ജീവിതമില്ലാത്ത സിനിമ. തികച്ചും യാഥാസ്ഥിതിക രീതിയിലുള്ള ചിത്രീകരണം. കാണികളെ ആകര്ഷിക്കാത്ത ക്ലൈമാക്സ്. വ്യക്തമാക്കാന് മടിക്കുന്നത്ര പ്രായമുള്ള പോത്തന് വാവയുടെ നായികയായി 20 കടക്കാത്ത ഗോപികയെത്തുന്നത് അനൌചിത്യമായി നില്ക്കുന്നു. സംഗീതബോധമില്ലാത്ത കുട്ടിയുടെ കച്ചേരി പോലുണ്ട് സംവൃത സുനിലിന്റെ അഭിനയം.
VERDICT
അല്പമൊന്നു ചിരിക്കാന് മാത്രമാണ് സിനിമ കാണുന്നതെങ്കില് പോത്തന് വാവയുള്ള തിയറ്ററിലേക്കു പോകാം. ഇടയ്ക്കൊന്നു കൂവാന് തോന്നിയാല് നിയന്ത്രിക്കണമെന്നു മാത്രം.
