Baba Kalyani is the story of a soft-spoken IPS officer who fights terrorism. Mohanlal does the role of Baba. Biju Menon and Jagathy Sreekumar are doing the roles his assistant officers. Mamta is Baba's classmate-lover, Bharathi who is an advocate.
Others in the cast include Venu Nagavalli, Murali, Sai Kumar, Indrajith, Shammi Thilakan, Vineeth Kumar, Bindu Panicker and Maya Moushami.
Baba Kalyani, the thirtieth directorial venture of Shaji Kailas is scripted by veteran writer SN swami. Songs penned by Vayalar Sarathchandra Varma are set to music by Alex Paul.

കൊച്ചി നഗരം കേന്ദ്രമാക്കി തീവ്രവാദികള് പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കുന്നു എന്നറിഞ്ഞ് ആന്റി ടെററിസ്റ്റ് വിങ്ങിലെ സമര്ഥനായ പൊലീസ് ഓഫീസര് ബാബാ കല്യാണി കൊച്ചിയിലെത്തുന്നു. അവിടെ കല്യാണിയെ കാത്ത് പഴയതും പുതിയതുമായ ശത്രുക്കളുടെ നിര തന്നെയുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. (പതിവു പോലെ) കൈക്കരുത്തും മനക്കരുത്തും കൊണ്ട് ശത്രുക്കളെ നിഷ്പ്രഭരാക്കി നായകന് മുന്നേറുന്നു. ഒപ്പം, തെറ്റിദ്ധാരണ മൂലം പണ്ടെങ്ങോ വാടിപ്പോയ പ്രണയം വീണ്ടും തളിരിടുന്നുമുണ്ട്.
PLUSES
മികച്ച എഡിറ്റിങ്ങും ചടുലമായ ഷോട്ടുകളും ഈ സിനിമയുടെ പ്രത്യേകതയാണ്; അതിനു പറ്റിയ പശ്ചാത്തലസംഗീതവും. രണ്ടു പാട്ടുകളും കൊള്ളാം. ഫൈറ്റിങ് സീനുകള് മലയാളസിനിമയ്ക്ക് അന്യമായ രീതിയില് മികവോടെ അവതരിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. (തമിഴ് സിനിമയിലും മറ്റും ഇതു പണ്ടേ കണ്ടിട്ടുള്ളതു തന്നെ.)
MINUSES
പുതുമയില്ലാത്ത പൊലീസ് കഥ. ഒരിക്കല് പോലും സസ്പെന്സ് നിലനിര്ത്താന് കഴിയാത്തതും പോരായ്മയാണ്. കീര്ത്തിചക്രയിലെ മേജര് മഹാദേവനെപ്പോലെ, അടിമുടി ഗാംഭീര്യമുള്ള ഓഫീസറായി ബാബാ കല്യാണിയെ അവതരിപ്പിക്കാന് കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ല. തിരക്കഥയും സംഭാഷണവും നിലവാരം പുലര്ത്തുന്നില്ല. സംവിധാനം ഷാജി കൈലാസിന്റെ സ്ഥിരം ശൈലിയില്.
VERDICT
ചടുലമായ ആക്ഷന് സീനുകള് ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നവര്ക്ക് ബാബാ കല്യാണി കാണാം. അങ്ങനെയല്ലാത്തവര്ക്കും തിയറ്ററില് നിന്ന് ഇറങ്ങിപ്പോരാനൊന്നും തോന്നില്ല.

waste movie. request to mohanlal, the great actor, plz don't waste your precious time with this type of 'chavaru' movies.request to shaji kailas , plz consult a physchatrist, and don't try to make kerala as a afghanistan.
Baba Kalyani- is a good action thriller by Shaji kailas and Mohan Lal team.Mohan Lal's action is very supar.Everyone can see this movie with pleasure.
