Big B is the debut directorial venture of cinematographer Amal Neerad. He also does the story and the screenplay. 'Big B' or Bilal John Kurisinkal is played by Mammootty. Others in the cast include Nafeeza Ali, Manoj K Jayan, Innocent, Vijayaraghavan, Manianpilla Raju, Mamta and Lena. Dialogue is by Unny R. Songs by Jophi Tharakan, Santhosh Varma are set to music by Alphons.
WHAT'S IT
കൊച്ചിനഗരത്തില് നിന്നും മേരിടീച്ചര് എന്ന സാമൂഹ്യപ്രവര്ത്തക എടുത്തു വളര്ത്തിയവനാണ് ബിലാല്. മേരിടീച്ചര്ക്ക് ശല്യമായി മാറിയ ഒരു ക്രിമിനലിനെ കുത്തിക്കൊന്ന് ബിലാല് കൊച്ചി വിടുന്നു. ഒരു നാള് മേരിടീച്ചര് കൊല്ലപ്പെടുന്നു. ബിലാലും സഹോദരന്മാരും ( മേരിടീച്ചര് മക്കളെ പോലെ വളര്ത്തിയ മറ്റുള്ളവര്) കൊച്ചിയിലെത്തുന്നു. മേരിടീച്ചറുടെ കൊലപാതകിയെ അന്വേഷിച്ചു പോയ അവര് കൊച്ചിയുടെ മാറിയ മുഖം തിരിച്ചറിയുന്നു. ശക്തിയും തന്ത്രവും കൊണ്ട് ശത്രുക്കളെ തകര്ക്കുന്നു.
PLUSES
മലയാളസിനിമ ഇന്നേവരെ അനുഭവിച്ചിട്ടില്ലാത്ത തരത്തിലുള്ള ട്രീറ്റ്മെന്റാണ് ഏറ്റവും വലിയ മേന്മ. ഇത്ര ചടുലമായി മലയാളസിനിമയില് കാമറ ഇതു വരെ ചലിച്ചിട്ടില്ല, ഇത്ര ത്രസിപ്പിക്കുന്ന വിധത്തില് വെടി പൊട്ടിയിട്ടില്ല, ഇത്ര തീവ്രമായ വിധത്തില് പശ്ചാത്തല സംഗീതം ഉപയോഗിച്ചിട്ടില്ല, ഇത്ര യാഥാര്ഥ്യബോധം ജനിപ്പിച്ചു കൊണ്ട് ഒരു കാറ് മറിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ല.....സിനിമ സംവിധായകന്റെ കലയാണെന്ന് അമല് നീരദ് ബോധ്യപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു. വികാരങ്ങള് പുറത്തു കാണിക്കാത്ത, എന്ത് എപ്പോള് ചെയ്യുമെന്ന് പറയാനാവാത്ത, കാരിരുമ്പു കൊണ്ടുള്ള നായകരൂപമായി മമ്മൂട്ടിയും മികച്ച പ്രകടനം കാഴ്ച വച്ചു. ഗാനരംഗങ്ങള് ബോളിവുഡ് സിനിമകളെ വെല്ലുന്നതാണ്.
MINUSES
മികച്ച കഥയില്ലാതെ പോയി എന്നതാണ് പ്രധാന ന്യൂനത. സംഭാഷണങ്ങള് പലയിടത്തും നന്നായെങ്കിലും ചിലയിടത്ത് അസ്വാഭാവികവും അരോചകവുമായി തോന്നി. തീരെ ചെറിയ സമയത്തേക്കാണെങ്കിലും നഫീസയുടെ സംഭാഷണം മോശമായി ഡബ് ചെയ്തത് സിനിമയുടെ തുടക്കത്തിന്റെ ഭംഗി കുറച്ചു. ഇത്ര ചടുലമായ സിനിമ രണ്ടര മണിക്കൂര് നീട്ടേണ്ടതില്ലായിരുന്നു.
VERDICT
മലയാളസിനിമയെ സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നവര് ബിഗ്ബി കാണണം. കാരണം ഇതു സിനിമയുടെ പുതുവഴിയാണ്.

the media review of Big B shows its a must for young talent in kerala likewise Tamil & North Indians in Indian Big Screen. But in Kerala an average mallu like a lotterry seller or an govt pueon. Can he digest the multi media jargons, OR he wud leave his cash to run for Sathyan Anthikaadu Sreenivasan movies?

Very good observation about an average malayali. See the word anish used. it is Mallu not malayali or keralite. Dear lottery sellers and govt peons, (all they come under the same category). u can be proud of urself. Because somebody identified u as average mallu.

Big B is defenititly a different film.But ceratain scennes was unnecassary.Inclusion of Mamamata Mohandas was also unnesassary
a waste film......
WOW!!! Its a tremendous effort from Amal and Mammookka,the Arnold of Malayalam movie industry....

Big B is certainly the No. 1 of Vishu films. It is just superb..mammootty rocks....
Apart from biased fans, a neutral film lover gives preference to watch this movie..
