VM Vinu's Sooryan depicts the story of Hari Narayanan, a well-known musician and his son Soorya Narayanan. Jayaram does the role of Soorya Narayanan, while Saikumar plays Hari Narayanan. Others in the cast include Vimala Raman, Harishree Ashokan, Madhupal, Vijayaraghavan, Kalaranjini and Nandini. Songs penned by Girish Puthencherry are set to music by Ilaiyaraja. The movie is scripted by Suresh Menon and Satheesh K Sivan. Utpal V Nayanar cranks the camera.
WHAT'S IT
പ്രശസ്തസംഗീതജ്ഞന്റെ മകനാണ് സൂര്യനാരായണന്. സംഗീതം വിറ്റ് കാശാക്കാത്ത അച്ഛനുണ്ടാക്കിയ കടങ്ങള് വീട്ടാന് സൂര്യന് നഗരത്തില് ജോലിക്കെത്തുന്നു. അവിടെ പഴയ സുഹൃത്തും മുന്മന്ത്രിയുമായ ചെറിയാനെ കണ്ടുമുട്ടുന്നു. സൂര്യന്റെ വീടിന്റെ ജപ്തി ഒഴിവാക്കാന് ചെറിയാന് സഹായിക്കുന്നു. ആ കടപ്പാടിന്റെ പേരില് സൂര്യന് ചെറിയാനു വേണ്ടി ആയുധമെടുക്കുന്നു. അതിന്റെ പേരില് കാമുകിയേയും അച്ഛനേയും നഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നു. ഗുണ്ടായിസം നിര്ത്തി സൂര്യന് സംഗീതലോകത്തിലേക്ക് മാത്രമായി ഒതുങ്ങുന്നു. എന്നാല് പ്രതികാരവുമായി ശത്രുക്കള് എത്തിയപ്പോള് സൂര്യന് വീണ്ടും ആയുധമെടുക്കേണ്ടി വന്നു.
PLUSES
സായികുമാറിന്റെ അഭിനയമാണ് എടുത്തു പറയേണ്ട മേന്മ. ജയറാമിന്റെ അച്ഛന് വേഷം അദ്ദേഹം ഗംഭീരമാക്കി. ക്ലൈമാക്സിലെ സംഘടനരംഗത്തിലെ പശ്ചാത്തലസംഗീതം മികച്ചതായിരുന്നു.
MINUSES
ഒരു വെളിവുമില്ലാത്ത കഥ. തികച്ചും യാഥാസ്ഥിതികമായ രീതിയിലുള്ള ചിത്രീകരണവും. ഹരിശ്രീ അശോകന്റെ ‘ചാന്തുപൊട്ട് ’ വേഷം സാമാന്യം ബോറായിരുന്നു. കണ്ടു പഴകിയ, അതിഭാവുകത്വം നിറഞ്ഞ വൈകാരികരംഗങ്ങള് അരോചകമായി തോന്നി.
VERDICT
സൂര്യന് എന്ന് പേരില് ഒരു മാറ്റമാവാമായിരുന്നു; തമോഗര്ത്തം!
