Ore Kadal (The Sea Within), Shyamaprasad's new film, is based on a classical Bengali novel Heerak Deepthi by Sunil Gangopadhyay. The movie is made with Mammootty and Meera Jasmine in the lead. Others in the cast include Narain and Ramya Krishnan. Songs by Girish Puthenchery are set to music by Ouseppachan. Azhagappan cranks the camera.

വ്യക്തിബന്ധങ്ങളുടെ കെട്ടുപാടുകള് ആഗ്രഹിക്കാത്ത, അതിപ്രശസ്തനായ സാമ്പത്തികശാസ്ത്രവിദഗ്ദ്ധനാണ് ഡോ. നാഥന്. ഒരു നിസ്സഹായാവസ്ഥയില് സഹായം ചോദിച്ചെത്തുമ്പോഴാണ് അയല്ഫ്ലാറ്റിലെ താമസക്കാരിയായ ദീപ്തിയെ അയാള് ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുന്നത്. താന് കൊതിച്ച സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യവും സന്തോഷവും അറിവും നാഥനില് കണ്ട ദീപ്തി അയാളില് ആകൃഷ്ടയാകുന്നു. ‘ആനന്ദ’ത്തിനു വേണ്ടി മാത്രം നാഥനും അവളോട് അടുക്കുന്നു. ‘ആനന്ദ’ത്തിലല്ലാതെ മറ്റൊന്നിലും താല്പര്യമില്ലാത്ത നാഥന് ദീപ്തിയുടെ മനസ്സ് അറിയുന്നില്ല; അവളുടെ രണ്ടാമത്തെ കുട്ടിയുടെ അച്ഛനായിട്ടു പോലും.

സിനിമയെ ഗൌരവമായി ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുന്ന ആസ്വാദകര്ക്ക് മികച്ച ചലച്ചിത്രാനുഭവം സമ്മാനിക്കാനുള്ള ശ്രമം ഈ ചിത്രത്തിലുണ്ട്; അത് ഏറെക്കുറെ ലക്ഷ്യം കാണുന്നുമുണ്ട്. മീര ജാസ്മിനും രമ്യ കൃഷ്ണനും ബാലതാരങ്ങളും മികച്ച പ്രകടനം കാഴ്ച വയ്ക്കുന്നു. പശ്ചാത്തല സംഗീതവും ഛായാഗ്രഹണവും സിനിമയെ ഗംഭീരമാക്കി. കണ്ണിനും കാതിനും ആകര്ഷകമായ പാട്ടുകള് ഈ ചിത്രത്തെ കൂടുതല് മനോഹരമാക്കുന്നു.
MINUSES
ദീപ്തിയുടെ കഥാപാത്രത്തിന്റെ മനോഘടനയിലേക്ക് സൂചന നല്കുന്ന രൂപകങ്ങളും സന്ദര്ഭങ്ങളും കുറച്ചു കൂടി ഉപയോഗിക്കാമായിരുന്നു. ഡോക്ടര് നാഥനെ മമ്മൂട്ടി കോട്ടമില്ലാതെ അവതരിപ്പിച്ചുവെങ്കിലും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ‘കരിസ്മ’യില് കഥാപാത്രം ചിലപ്പോഴെങ്കിലും മുങ്ങിപ്പോകുന്നുണ്ട്. സംവിധായകനു പോലും മമ്മൂട്ടിയുടെ താരത്തിളക്കം മുഴുവന് മറക്കാനായിട്ടില്ല. ബാലിശമായ ചില സംഭാഷണങ്ങള് ഇടയ്ക്കു കേട്ടതും കല്ലുകടി പോലെ തോന്നി.
VERDICT
തട്ടുപൊളിപ്പന് തമാശയും ആക്ഷനും മാത്രമാണ് സിനിമ എന്നു കരുതുന്നവര് ഈ സിനിമ കാണാന് പോകേണ്ട; ബോറടിയില് മുങ്ങിത്താഴും. കലാരൂപമെന്ന നിലയില് സിനിമയെ കാണുന്നവര്ക്ക് ‘ഒരേ കടലി’ല് മുങ്ങാംകുഴിയിടാം. ചിലര്ക്ക് മുത്തുകള് കിട്ടും, ചിലര്ക്ക് പവിഴം, ചിലര്ക്ക് മണല്ത്തരികളും!

I watched this movie recently...I felt like this movie deserve much highter than 6 out of 10....This is one of the best in recent times.I didn't see any comments about the music and songs in the review.Songs and its picturisation were extremely good.The background music was excellent.I felt both Mammootty and Meera got good roles after a long time.
റിവ്യൂ ശരിക്കു വായിക്കാതെയാണ് മനോജ് കമന്റ് ചെയ്തതെന്ന് തോന്നുന്നു. ചിത്രത്തിലെ ആക്ര്ഷകമായ പാട്ടുകളെ കുറിച്ചും പശ്ചാത്തല സംഗീതത്തെ കുറിച്ചും pluses-l പറഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ട്. ചിത്രം തീര്ച്ചയായും ഒരു നല്ല സംരംഭം തന്നെ. എന്നാല് ഇതിന് ആധാരമായ ഹീരക്ക് ദീപ്തി എന്ന നോവല് വായിച്ചവര്ക്ക് തിരക്കഥയുടെ ആഴമില്ലായ്മ മനസിലാകും. ദീപ്തി മാനസികരോഗാശുപത്രിയില് കഴിയുന്ന അഞ്ചുവര്ഷത്തിലേറെ കാലം അവളുടെ ഭര്ത്താവും കുട്ടികളും കടന്നു പോകുന്ന പ്രതിസന്ധികള് നോവലില് മനോഹരമായി വിവരിക്കുന്നു. ചിത്രത്തിലാണെങ്കില് മീരയുടെ മകള് ഒരു കാര്യവുമില്ലാതെ അവളുടെ അമ്മ കോയമ്പത്തൂരിലാണെന്നു പറയുന്നു. ഒരു ഭ്രാന്താശുപത്രിയില് കഴിഞ്ഞതിന്റെ അവശതകളൊന്നും മീരയുടെ മേക്കപ്പില് വരുത്തിയിട്ടില്ല. പക്ഷേ മീരയുടെ അഭിനയ ചാതുരിക്കു മുമ്പില് നാം അതു മറക്കുമെന്നു മാത്രം.

I read much about subhash chandran-shayamaprasad controversy on ore kadal and have gone through some parts of the screen play written by subhash in madhayam onaa pathippu.so I went to see the film 'ore kadal' with much expectation.after the film i feel that shyamaprasad deserve appreciation for his excellent direction.
stengths of the film
1.A good story.
2.Excellent screen play.
3.beautiful the background Music by ousappachan
4.wonderful performances by meera & mammooti
5.camera work by alagappan.
6.craft in editing
weakness
1.average casting by naren.
2.Due recognition might have given to the past life of 'Bela'
Anyway the stengths of the film out number the weakness and hence will get enough appreciations from every corners...

സിനിമ സംവിധായകന്റെ കലയെന്ന് ചില സന്ദര്ഭങ്ങളിലെങ്കിലും വിളിച്ചു പറയുന്ന സിനിമ. എങ്കിലും 'ദീപിതി' യെ ഓര്ത്താല് നിലവാരത്തകര്ച്ച കാണാനാകും, മമ്മൂട്ടിയുടെയും മികച്ച ചിത്രങ്ങളിലൊന്ന് ന്നെു പറയുകയും വയ്യ

I think Malayalam viewers are changed a lot...We complain about quality but whenever there are quality movies ,there are too much criticism and very limited number of viewers.Media wants to label Ore kadal as a Budhijeevi award movie right from day one...They were eager to call it as a flop in day one without even watching it....This is not a typical masala movie but was enjoyed by an ordinary viewer like me.Only with mouth publicity these kind of movies can be a hit.But media and fans destroyed the good attempt by Shyamaprasad.

superb direction and treatment by shyam prasad Classic acting by mammootty & meera.the best movie of 07 so far.
OREY KADAL is a Brilliant Film. No doubt about that. I appreciate the courage of Shyamaprasad to direct a film with such an offbeat theme. And the treatment given to NATHAN and DEEPTHI by MAMMOOTTY and MEERA JASMINE was classical and totally astonishing...
OREY KADAL will defenitely win awards not only by the people but also by AWARD Committees..!!
I watched this movie recently.This is one of the best in recent times. No Doubt. The picturization background music and also songs were totally excellent. In total the film was extremely good.Itz just another classical and perfect acting performance from Mammootty and Meera.
My Film deserves more than 6.

no doubt about the quality of the movies.a few short comings i would like to point out.
1. mammoty fails miserably as an actor.
2.so as to get an acceptance from our society, i think the director had compromised on the character of mammoty by reinventing into the physce of a an average malayali / indian (bondage towards a child). still its worth watching /thinking.
