WHAT'S IT
പുതിയ രീതിയിലുള്ള പണിയായുധങ്ങളും കറങ്ങുന്ന കസേരയും മറ്റും ഇല്ലാത്തതിനാല് ബാര്ബര് ഷോപ്പില് പണി കുറഞ്ഞ് കുടുംബം പട്ടിണിയിലായ അവസ്ഥയിലാണ് ബാര്ബര് ബാലന്. കട പുതുക്കാന് ലോണെടുക്കാമെന്നു വച്ചാല് അതിനുള്ള അപേക്ഷ പോലും എവിടെയും സ്വീകരിക്കപ്പെടുന്നില്ല. അങ്ങനെയിരിക്കെയാണ് ആ ഗ്രാമത്തില് ഷൂട്ടിങ്ങിനായി സൂപ്പര് സ്റ്റാര് അശോക് രാജ് എത്തുന്നത്. അശോക് രാജ് ബാലന്റെ സുഹൃത്താണെന്നറിഞ്ഞ നാട്ടുകാര് ആവശ്യപ്പെടാതെ തന്നെ ബാലനു സഹായങ്ങള് നല്കുന്നു. പക്ഷേ, സൂപ്പര്സ്റ്റാര് തന്റെ സുഹൃത്താണെന്നതിനു തെളിവു നല്കാന് ബാലനു കഴിയാതെ വരുന്നതോടെ നാട്ടുകാരുടെ കണ്ണില് അയാള് വെറും ബഡായിക്കാരനാകുന്നു. ഒരു പൊതുപരിപാടിയില് വച്ച് സൂപ്പര് സ്റ്റാര് അശോക് രാജ് ഒരു കഥ പറയുന്നതാണ് സിനിമയുടെ വഴിത്തിരിവ്.
PLUSES
പുതുമയുള്ള ലളിതമായ കഥ. ടിപ്പിക്കല് ശ്രീനിവാസന് സ്റ്റൈല് കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളും തമാശയും ഉണ്ട്. പ്രായം കൂടിയെന്ന് ശ്രീനിവാസന്റെ മുഖം വിളിച്ചു പറയുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിലും, സ്വതസിദ്ധമായ ഭാവപ്രകടനങ്ങള്ക്ക് ആ മുഖത്ത് കുറവൊന്നുമില്ല. ഗസ്റ്റ് റോളില് മമ്മൂട്ടി കസറി; പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് അവസാനം കഥ പറയുന്ന വേദിയില് വികാരഭരിതനാവുന്ന രംഗത്ത്. തമാശ കലര്ത്തിയ പാട്ടും നന്നായിട്ടുണ്ട്.
MINUSES
പറഞ്ഞു പഴകിയ തമാശകള് ആദ്യപകുതിയില് പലയിടത്തും ബോറടിപ്പിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. ഇന്നസെന്റും തടിമാടന്മാരായ ഗുണ്ടകളും ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്ന തമാശകള് അസഹനീയമാണ്. ‘ഗ്ലാമര് ഗേള്’ ആയ മീനയ്ക്ക്, ദരിദ്രയായ വീട്ടമ്മയുടെ വേഷത്തില് പകര്ന്നാടാന് മേക്കപ്പ് തടസമായി. മമ്മൂട്ടിയുടെ പാട്ടുരംഗം കേള്വിക്കും കാഴ്ചയ്ക്കും നന്നായില്ല.

Another beautiful movie, may be the best after Ore Kadal. With a few more cuts - of some unwanted comic scenes and a song- this would have been the best movie after Kazhcha - simply about the greatness of simple human beings- here of Balan, a barber played by Sreenivasan. You will have tears of joy towards the climax, for which you should thank Srinivasan.
Unfortunately, the hypocratic Malayaali audience is more lenient to craps like Rock n Roll and Om Shanthi Om.
I just wish, the movie was directed by Sathyan Anthikkad.
വളരെ നല്ല നിരൂപണം എന്നൊന്നും ഇതിനെ പറയാനാവില്ലെങ്കിലും മറ്റ് നിരൂപനങ്ങളെക്കാള് വളരെ മെച്ചപെട്ടതു എന്നു നിസംശയം പറയാം.
ശ്രീനിവാസന് തന്റ്റെ പതിവു ശൈലിയില് തന്നെ ഹാസ്യം അവതരിപ്പിച്ചു എങ്കിലും ആത്മ വിമര്ശനതിന്റ്റെതായ പഴയ ശ്രീനി തന്ത്രം ഈ സിനിമയില് അവര്ത്തന വിരസത ഒണ്ടാക്കിയോ എന്നു പോലും സംശയിക്കണം.മികച്ചൊരു കഥാന്ത്യം നന്നായി വന്നില്ലയിരുന്നെങ്കില് ഈ സിനിമ ശരാശരിയിലും താഴെ പൊകുമായിരുന്നു.പിന്നെ സൂപ്പര് താരം അശോക് രാജ് ന്റ്റെ ഗാന രംഗം അനിവാര്യമായിരുന്നെങ്കിലും വിഗ്ഗ് വെച്ചുള്ള വേഷങ്ങള് ഒഴിവക്കി കുറച്ചു കൂടെ നന്നാകമായിരുന്നു. എന്നിരുന്നാലും ഇതിന്റ്റെ റേറ്റിങ്ങ് കുറച്ചു കൂടെ ആവാമായിരുന്നു.
Ratingil sulekhayum moshamallennu manasilayi,i expected 7/10.but sulekha brought it in the category of"chotta mumbai".

'Kadha Parayumbhol' is an impressive return to the good old days of Malayalam cinema- a time when great scripts ruled over the techniques of cinema and when directors paid heed to get the best scripts before the actual production of movies. Here, it is the writer and lead actor of the film Sreenivasan, who has emerged the ultimate winner ,as a scriptwriter who reminds us about our good old cinema and as an actor who reminds us about our next door problems and third world snobbery's.
Debutante director M Mohanan pay his respect to his guru and popular director Sathyan Anthikkad by following a narrative line, very similar to the thespian director and by maintaining a tempo and pace that suits today's audiencesThe film, skillfully repeats the representative characters, from every layer of the rural villages, (reminiscent of Sathyan films) with which the writer makes a lot of careful observations and clarifications about the phenomenon of super stardom and lives of people living in the lower strata of the society. Mostly represented by local professional actors in these roles, the film also gives an authentic feel with all sorts of storyline surprises and political criticisms in spite of its simple exterior. In the scripts, Sreeni seems to repeat some of his earlier sarcastic attributes like dark skin and heightlessness, but more commendable is that he has easily stretched a wafer thin plot to two hours and ten minutes with out much space for idleness

Here is a good Malayalam film after a longwhile. The climax of the film is brilliantly worked out with fine performance of Mamootty, Sreenivasan, even by the child artists who plays the role of Balan's Children. Once again Sreenivasn has proved that it is the quality of the screenplay that determines the success of the film. Kudos to Sreenivasan.
Let those directors, who make films with mustache twirling superhuman heros who have changed the aesthetics of cinefans to the hell, see this fine movie a hundred times.
