WHAT'S IT
അറുത്ത കൈയ്ക്ക് ഉപ്പു തേക്കാത്ത പലിശക്കാരനാണ് പുരുഷോത്തമന് എന്ന പരുന്ത് പുരുഷു (മമ്മൂട്ടി). പുരുഷുവിന് എല്ലാത്തിലും വലുത് പണമാണ്; പണത്തിനു മേല് പുരുഷു പറന്നിറങ്ങും. കുഞ്ഞുന്നാളില് തന്നെ സ്നേഹിക്കാത്ത അമ്മയുമായുള്ള ബന്ധം വല്ലപ്പോഴും അവര്ക്കു കൊടുക്കുന്ന 101 രൂപയാണ്; ഗര്ഭപാത്രത്തിന്റെ 10 മാസത്തെ വാടക! സമ്പാദിക്കാനുള്ള ഓട്ടത്തിനിടയില് നിരവധി കുടുംബങ്ങളെ പുരുഷു തെരുവിലിറക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. ഇതിനിടെ, ശത്രുവിന്റെ (മറ്റൊരു പലിശക്കാരന്. കക്ഷി പുരുഷുവിന്റെ ബാല്യകാലശത്രുവാണ്!) അനുയായിയുടെ കുത്തേല്ക്കുന്ന പുരുഷുവിനെ രക്ഷിക്കാന് സ്വയം സമ്പാദിച്ച പണം ഉപകരിക്കുന്നില്ല. സഹായത്തിനു വരുന്നത് പുരുഷു മുന്പ് ദ്രോഹിച്ച ഒരു കുടുംബത്തിലെ പെണ്കുട്ടിയാണ്. അത് പുരുഷുവില് മാറ്റമുണ്ടാക്കുന്നു. പിന്നെയെല്ലാം പതിവുപോലെ.

PLUSES
വില്ലന് പരിവേഷമുള്ള നായകകഥാപാത്രമായി മമ്മൂട്ടി എത്തുന്നു എന്നതാണ് പരുന്തിന്റെ ഒരേയൊരു സവിശേഷത. തുമ്പീ തുമ്പീ ആടാനോ എന്ന ഗാനം കണ്ടിരിക്കാവുന്നതാണ്.
MINUSES
പുരുഷു കാവടി എടുത്തുകൊണ്ടുള്ള ഒരു പാട്ടുണ്ട്; പഞ്ഞിയില് മനുഷ്യരൂപമുണ്ടാക്കി ഉള്ളില് സ്പ്രിങ് പിടിപ്പിച്ച് ഡാന്സ് കളിപ്പിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ തോന്നുന്ന ആ സീനുകള് മതി സിനിമയുടെ മൊത്തം നിലവാരം മനസ്സിലാക്കാന്. (പല തിയറ്ററുകളിലും ഈ പാട്ട് നീക്കിയിട്ടാണത്രേ ഇപ്പോള് പരുന്ത് പ്രദര്ശിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്.) തിരക്കഥ, സംഭാഷണം, സംവിധാനം എല്ലാം പരമദയനീയമാണ്. ആന്റി ഹീറോ പരിവേഷം നല്കുമ്പോഴും നായകകഥാപാത്രത്തിന് (മമ്മൂട്ടിയുടെ പുരുഷു) അടിസ്ഥാനപരമായ നന്മയുണ്ടെന്ന് സൂചിപ്പിക്കാന് കഴിയാതെ പോയതാണ് കഥയിലെ പ്രധാന പരാജയം. പുരുഷുവിന്റെ മാനസാന്തരം തിയറ്ററില് കൂവലുയര്ത്തുന്നതിന്റെ കാരണവും അതു തന്നെ. ഭസ്മപ്പെട്ടിയില് മകന്റെ ബാല്യകാലചിത്രം സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്ന അമ്മ, കുട്ടിക്കാലം തൊട്ടേ നായകന്റെ ശത്രുസ്ഥാനത്ത് നില്ക്കുന്ന വില്ലന്, കലഹിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് നായകനെ പരിചയപ്പെടുന്ന നായിക... ഇങ്ങനെ ഒട്ടേറെ പഴകി ദ്രവിച്ച കഥാസന്ദര്ഭങ്ങള് ടി എ റസാക്ക് ഈ ചിത്രത്തില് എഴുതിച്ചേര്ത്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. വില്ലന്റെ അനുയായി നായകനെ വെടി വയ്ക്കുമ്പോള് അതു വില്ലനു തന്നെ കൊള്ളുന്ന ക്ലൈമാക്സ് തന്ത്രം കൂടി പ്രയോഗിക്കുന്നതോടെ പരുന്തിന്റെ ശവപ്പെട്ടിയില് റസാക്ക് അവസാനത്തെ ആണിയും അടിക്കുന്നു.
VERDICT
മമ്മൂട്ടിയുടെ കടുത്ത ആരാധകര്ക്ക് ഒരുപക്ഷേ രസിച്ചേക്കാവുന്ന സിനിമ.

VERDICT
മമ്മൂട്ടിയുടെ കടുത്ത ആരാധകര്ക്ക് ഒരുപക്ഷേ രസിച്ചേക്കാവുന്ന സിനിമ.

Mammooty deserves this flop as his previous movie Annan Thampi- which was a huge hit, only an imitation of Tamil movies of 80.He desperately tries to be young and flexible which would not help Malayalam Cinema.We expect roles of some difference from this actor with perfection
Give 4 marks...It is not a good movie. But what is so special about hit movies like Annan thampi or Chinthavishayam. I felt this movie is slightly better than them.

Sure, sometimes it works (see ‘Annan Thampi’), but too often movies can spell disaster (see, ‘Nasrani’, ‘Prajapathy’ and now this ill-fated flick). However, it sure is not the end of this versatile actor… Let’s wait for Pazhassi Raja, shall we?

Its not that bad.Nothing new in madambi also. Both are average movies.Since mihanlal had few flops in a row his fans are trying to convert an average movie into a meaga hit.Ofourse dont think i am a mammoty fan.I would like to appreaciate movies which are good.I can give 6 marks for this movie.
it is not a bad film. compared to other films of padmakumar,it is an average film. lakshmy rai is super.

Razaak has to improve a lot on writing a screenplay . Still he is writing drama dialogues which is "unsahikkable"
mammootys'best movie
parunthu is better than madambi no doubt.indhulekha has strained hard to underrate parunthu. madambi is totally unrealistic the court scene in it is enough to show its low standard .parunthu is realistic,super act by mammootty, 6 marks surely....
Parunthe is a super film and good than madampi.It reveals the realities of our socity.Someone giving negative openion becous mammootty in negative role and he is crual but it shows his courage to come out side of his image.Some others critizising this film are bloody mohanlal fans.I will give 8 marks for this film.By Sebastian John
first half is really good. second half and the poem spoiled the movie. the writer should let the hero as an anti hero. he tried to convert him a good person. that was so irritatable.
